The International Journal of Illich Studies

The founding of a new journal is an exciting but tricky endeavor. On the one hand, it is auspicious because there is quite literally nothing to lose and everything to gain. On the other, one assumes the existence of a community of ideas and readers that in reality can only be proven retroactively with the journal's achieved success.

Ivan Illich created and called for hope in dark times and so we hope that this journal can be one more small flame of critique and inspiration for an intellectual community that does not seek to go gently into the good night of dehumanized globalism.

Won't you join us as a reader and author, register, and contribute to this project? Take the opportunity to explore with us Illich's profound variety of essays and works; and to help nourish a place for radical visions on behalf of life in the 21st century.

We will be publishing essays and reviews on Illich's ideas and those who have taken them up, interviews with friends and students of Illich as well as their stories, and rarities from the Illich oeuvre including letters, pamphlets and other pieces previously unseen on the Internet but made freely available herein.
