Focus and Scope
The International Journal of Illich Studies invites articles, reviews, interviews, stories, and other forms of interdisciplinary and multimedia submissions dealing with the ideas of the great social critic, Ivan Illich. While it is hoped that all submissions will attempt to demonstrate their relationship to Illich's work in some fashion, we also hope to house work in post-development studies, place-based education, commons-based approaches to living, the critical theory of everyday life, and other fields sowed by Illich over the last five decades.
Publication is determined by juried review, with essays blind reviewed by external readers and other submissions reviewed extensively by the editorial board. For more information contact Clayton Pierce.

Peer Review Process
All materials submitted to the journal are reviewed either blindly by at least one external peer reviewer who is considered to have expertise on the essay's topic, or by extensive discussion of the journal's editorial board.
Reviewers are asked to judge the quality of the writing, its scholarly rigor, its ability to illuminate contemporary social and ecological issues, and its relevance to the body of Illich's own ideas.
We ask reviewers to return reviews within approximately 4 to 6 weeks and so a typical review process can be expected to occur within 2 to 3 months. In some cases, this can be longer, in which case the journal will make every effort to keep the submitting author informed of the updated timeline.
Publication Frequency
The journal presently seeks to publish twice per year, beginning with a first issue in October, 2009, a second issue with expected release date of April, 2010, and every 6 months thereafter. As submissions increase, we will reconsider our production schedule accordingly.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater exchange of knowledge.
Archiving
